Rihanna Crowned 2011 Download Queen
Rihanna has been crown the queen of the downloads after becoming the best-selling online artist of 2011, according to Nielsen SoundScan, her digital record sales at more than 47.5 million at the end of 2011. The Black Eyed Peas had the second most with 42.4 million downloads – their 2009 hit “I Gotta Feeling” racked up 7.6 million. Eminem and Lady Gaga came in third and fourth with 42.2 million and 42 million, respectively, while Taylor Swift rounded out the top five with 41.8 million sales. Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Beyonce, Kanye West and Britney Spears make up the rest of the top 10. |

The Band originally known as The Time now The Original 7ven is hooking up with Fox Sports Net for a musical start to the NBA season. The bands old jams and their single “#Trendin” will be played throughout basketball games along with game highlights and special productions. The group’s new CD “Trendin: is the first time the seven musicians have recorded together in over 21 years. Members of the Minneapolis group include Morris Day, Jerome Benton, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jesse Johnson, Monte Moir and Jellybean Johnson. |

World renowned jazz musician Sam Rivers Passes
Sam Rivers saxophonist, flutist and composer who played with Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie passed away from pneumonia. An Oklahoma native, Rivers started his career in Boston, where he performed with Herb Pomeroy’s big band in an ensemble that included future music producer Quincy Jones. Throughout his career he played with a diverse group of musicians that included legends T-Bone Walker and John Lee Hooker. He was 88. |
